Snow blanket hits most of Mongolia
"At least nine of all the 21 Mongolian provinces have been experiencing extreme wintry weather, known as 'dzud,'" the weather agency said. The statement added that 16 provinces are facing near-dzud conditions.
The term dzud refers to an exceptionally harsh winter in Mongolia, during which large numbers of livestock perish due to frozen or snow-covered ground.
Mongolia is known for its severe continental climate, characterized by long, bitterly cold winters and brief summers.
